CBA Efforts and Achievements

  • Recognized a need to research aspects of the 38 acre Bo-Rit Asbestos Waste Dump which was left behind when the White Mountains Asbestos Waste Dump became a Superfund site in the late 1980's. Health and safety being of the most important issue to CBA.

  • Initiated conversations with local, state, and federal politicians; health agencies, the EPA; and the DEP, asking for their involvement by calling attention to the dangers of abandoned asbestos dumps.

  • Urged the DEP and EPA to begin implementation of an assessment /removal & remedial study of the abandoned, deteriorating, asbestos waste.

  • Organized two public rallies in Ambler to educate and raise public awareness.

  • Provided photo documentation and 12 scientific documents relating to this site including EPA documents which accompanied letters to politicians and municipalities to help them understand that this site continues to be a hazard to the public's health.

  • Founded the Community Advisory Group (the CAG) with the EPA in 2007.

  • Researches and provides information to the CAG & community on current trends in asbestos waste remediation via new technologies such as thermal chemical conversion; and of actions for asbestos as performed by the EPA at other sites nationwide.

  • Meets with municipal leaders, EPA, politicians, leading environmental experts (Lenny Siegal, Gary Brown, Dale Timmons) to obtain education; discuss & tour the site; and request involvement and input. Obtained enviro expert to testify before the house senate on site.

  • Arranged a public meeting (in conjunction with Ambler Borough officials) 03/08 to support the CAG (Community Advisory Group) affirmative vote by the 17/25 members to learn about new and proven method of asbestos waste remediation by ARI Technologies, Inc.

  • Acquired over 1400 signatures on a petition in 2005 to the Ambler Borough Council against building a highrise on the Bo-Rit asbestos waste site.

  • Acquired over 5200 signatures on a petition to the EPA requesting NPL (National Priority List) status for the Bo-Rit site.

  • Currently acquired over 2500 signatures (as of 9.09) on a petition to government officials and EPA in support of the safe removal of asbestos waste from the Bo-Rit, thereby performing a final solution for the health and safety of the residents forever.

  • Performs public educational outreach meetings for local residents such as: MHVA (Mercer Hill Village) and WACA (West Ambler Civic Association), the two neighborhoods flanking the site

  • Participate in weekly site-operations conference calls w/EPA regarding actions being performed by EPA. Recommended EPA create a decon area for trucks leaving site; insisted work trucks stop driving & parking on asbestos site and use gravel roads; asked for more air sampling to be performed leading the site to score on top ten National Priority List.
